(PRWEB) October 21, 2005 -- Most times, ghost hunting is a pretty boring venture. You go in, take pictures, make recordings, go home and analyze them. No big deal – except occasionally, you come across something just a little different. A little something different that can make ghost hunting a dangerous experience. “The use of psychics can add many ways to investigations” states Sandra Heglund, a researcher at Western New York Paranormal of Rochester. They can help lead you to active areas of the home for investigation and provide some very useful information about the spirits in the home. Information that can be used along with historical research to verify events that may have occurred in the home, or lend an important clue to the identity of a spirit within the home. Although there are benefits to using psychics in paranormal investigations, there is also a danger. A danger that can lead to one of the most scary events that can happen on a hunt – a psychic attack. Psychic attacks exhibit themselves in many different manners. Heglund believes that “attacks” can change depending upon the medium, and depending upon the spirit themselves. They can be as mild as experiencing a feeling of being ill – nausea, headache, muscle pain where there was nothing before, chest discomfort, and breathing problems. The attack can also manifest itself in physical ways as well. For example, in a past investigation the psychic that works closely with Western New York Paranormal slipped down some stairs. When she was asked “what happened?” She simply stated that she was pushed. Spirits can often times manifest physical sensations like something as gentle as playing with someone’s hair, tapping a shoulder, or as powerful as a shove or a push. Now many would argue that the psychic simply slipped down the stairs by her own fault as a result of walking around in the dark. Normally, this statement couldn’t be argued with effectively except she has a tape recorder on her that captured an EVP stating “watch her fall” only seconds before she fell. Pushing or shoving is one means of an attack that a psychic can experience on an investigation. In a home where there existed a great amount of negative activity, a group of researchers were investigating a basement area. Suddenly the psychic of the group “senses” something is crowding around him and then feels a sensation on his forearm. Fellow investigators brought his arm into the light only to watch a burn spontaneously appear. His burn was red, hot, and painful and remained for several days afterwards. “Our team has seen psychic attacks occur in the form of scratches, and bruises as well” explained Heglund. Thoughts can intrude of harming themselves or someone else – as though another mind were trying to take over and influence the victim to go against their normal personality and way of “being”. Anger, hate, sadness – all of these can be attacks. Many believe this can only happen to those “open” enough to allow spirit to influence them in such ways. But such experiences are not only limited to sensitives. They can happen to anyone, at anytime. All it takes is something to open a weakness – a chink in your armor – for spirit to take charge for a moment. Case in point – one of our members is strictly technical. He’d never had anything happen to him at any hunt. Ask him what his impressions are of a particular home investigation, and he’s very likely to answer “it felt like a house.” Until the day during an investigation in a cemetery, when he heard someone breathe in his ear – and no one was there. It so profoundly affected him that he was shaken for hours. Several members of the Western New York Paranormal team have experienced much more. Psychic burns that require holy water poured on them to stop the pain. There were scratches that show up onsite and take hours or days to go away. What is the best protection against psychic attack? It’s a strong belief system. Pray for protection before going into the site. Wear that religious medal or talisman from which you draw your protection. Envision a white dome of light surrounding yourself and your crew, as you enter into your investigation. And when you leave, say a prayer admonishing spirit that they are not welcome to return home with you. They must remain or go on to the light. For those who enter into this field in a strictly scientific manner, the belief that there is no such thing as a psychic attack is sufficient? Right? Well, just in case, it would help to have someone on your team with a medical or first-aid background – of course this should be a rule for any group. A medically trained person would then serve as an observer who could document the potential occurrences and properly treat them. “Personally, I don’t take the chance and I believe in my faith as protection. To me, a spirit is just that – a spirit,” states Heglund. .
